Geologist

JOB PURPOSE

The primary responsibility of the Geologist is to ensure the overall effective execution and management of geological functions within Menar.

In addition, the role will ensure that the operations’ resources and reserves are utilised effectively and that the allocation of resources fit and are in line with Menar’s project and growth pipeline.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE

  • BSc (Hons) in Geology

  • Registered with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist

  • Code 08 driver’s license

  • Medical Certificate of Fitness

  • English proficiency

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Geology in a Mining Industry.

  • High level relevant experience in operational & exploration geology incl. drilling, grade control & geophysics

  • Primary Experience in coal and secondary experience in PGMs, Lithium, Rare Earth Elements and Gold

  • Must be willing to travel.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Ability to work well under pressure.

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

  • Organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Dedication to the tasks at hand and willingness to go the extra mile when needed.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The job holder executes a large variety of activities that include but are not limited to the following:

  • Implement Geological Management Systems.

  • Advise and consult with the mine manager and the management team on all operational geology issues.

  • Conduct legal geological inspections and submit reports to management on deviations and good practices observed.

  • Ensure that monthly statistical reports to the management team are submitted.

  • Consult with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy and Mine Manager on all geological matters.

  • Follow up on geological audit reports, action plans and incident reports.

  • Input into mine planning processes.

  • Technical valuation of coal deposits/resources/reserves

  • Conduct geological due diligence on coal prospects.

  • Compile Prospecting Work Programmes.

  • Assist with the engagement with I&AP re EMP processes.

  • Provide a professional geological consultancy to Menar and its subsidiaries to assist in the efficient, safe and profitable exploitation of the ore bodies.

  • Oversee exploration drilling campaigns.

  • Conduct core logging, sampling and data base management of green and brownfields projects.

  • Oversee and manage sample analysis from respective laboratories and ensure quality control and quality assurance of lab results obtained.
