Civil Engineer
The company would like to employ a self-motivated Civil Engineer. The successful candidate will be based in Sandton, however, will be required to travel to all the mining sites in the Group.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Undertake construction site monitoring activities including QA/QC, inspection of works, record keeping, approval of materials, issuing of site instructions, adjudication of claims and certification of works
Monitor and ensure safe and best practice during construction
Oversee field site activities and provide technical advice on construction and design.
Measure quantities and compile schedules of quantities.
Liaise with the design engineer for clarity on drawings, construction methodology and specifications
Monitor progress on site, evaluate progress reports submitted by the contractor and provide schedule inputs/feedback to avoid delays
Review and approve contract submittals and payment applications to the contractor
Adjudicate claims submitted by the contractor
Participate in contract close-out activities
Conduct progress meetings with the contractor and appropriate personnel.
Sign-off on designs and construction methods
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Required Qualifications:
B Eng (Civil) or B Tech (Civil)
Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer
Required Skills and Experience:
8 - 10 years’ experience in Mining Infrastructure design and construction in a leadership role
Proficient in construction quality assurance, project monitor (time and cost)
Must have excellent interpersonal skills
Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D (or similar) as well as MS Project and MS Office
Valid driver’s licence
Proficient in reading and interpreting contract documents construction drawings, bill of quantities and project specifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Solid organisation, time-management skills and attention to detail
