JOB PURPOSE
The primary responsibility of the Geologist is to ensure the effective management of geological functions within Menar. This role focuses on optimizing the use of coal reserves and aligning resource allocation with Menar’s project and growth pipeline

JOB OUTLINE
The Geologist will oversee compliance with geological regulations and advise management on geological matters. Key responsibilities include:
Implement Geological Management Systems.
Consult with mine manager and management on operational geology issues.
Conduct geological inspections and report on deviations and best practices.
Submit geological reports to management.
Liaise with DMR and Mine Manager on geological matters.
Address geological audit reports, action plans, and incident reports.
Input into mine planning processes.
Conduct technical evaluations of coal deposits/resources/reserves.
Perform geological due diligence on coal prospects.
Compile Prospecting Work Programmes.
Engage with Interested and Affected Parties (I&AP) regarding Environmental Management Plans (EMP).
Provide geological consultancy to Menar and its subsidiaries for efficient, safe, and profitable ore exploitation.
Oversee exploration drilling campaigns.
Conduct core logging, sampling, and manage databases for greenfield and brownfield projects.
Manage sample analysis, ensuring quality control and assurance of laboratory results.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Geology Management
Early Life of Mine:
Project geological structures from surface boreholes for optimal shaft sinking.
Provide accurate geological models
Provide reports on geological models, qualities and structure
Advise on adverse geological occurrences.
Middle/Late Life of Mine:
Conduct research to better understand mine geology.
Plan and drill prospecting operations for new coal reserves.
Investigate structurally complex areas to generate new coal reserves.
Analyse evaluation problems and value trends.
Assess economic potential of coal seams.
Customer Management
Stakeholder Relations:
Deliver accurate services on the first attempt.
Manage relationships with key stakeholders (Mine Managers, DMR, etc.).
Address customer complaints, identify root causes, and provide recommendations.
Internal Process Management
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
Participate in HSE Performance Reviews.
Adhere to Management of Change processes.
Identify and report on applicable geological legislative requirements.
Report HSE incidents and comply with disciplinary and emergency procedures.
Ensure PPE compliance.
Strategy:
Advise management on geological developments to assist in mine production planning.
Plan, cost, and initiate exploration programs to generate new ore reserves.
Motivate research projects for better geological understanding.
Delineate and compile potential ore reserves.
Policies and Procedures:
Participate in developing and implementing Geological Risk controls.
Audits, Reviews, and Inspections:
Ensure compliance with internal control practices and systems.
Implement approved audit recommendations
Performance Management:
Compile Geological Management Systems Performance Reports.
Incident Reporting and Investigation:
Review and communicate learnings from external Geological Significant Incidents.
Investigate and interpret Mine Geological Significant Incidents.
Risk Management and Assessment:
Assist with Continuous Geological Risk Assessment.
Communication and Consultation:
Provide geological information for Mine publications.
Projects:
Participate in Mine Geological projects and initiatives.
Benchmarking:
Benchmark Mine Geological systems against Best Practices.
Business Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve Mine Geological performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
BSc (Hons) in Geology
Registered with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist
Code 08 driver’s license
Medical Certificate of Fitness
English proficiency
Advantageous:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Coal Mining Geology
Extensive experience in operational and exploration geology, including drilling, grade control, and geophysics
Extensive experience in coal resource estimation and modelling.
Primary experience in coal and secondary experience in Manganese, PGMs, Lithium, Rare Earth Elements, and Gold.
