Senior Mine Planner – Underground
DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underground Mine Planner with a strong background in geological modelling to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing mine plans, integrating geological data into mine designs, and optimizing production processes in an underground mining environment. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of both mine planning principles and geological modelling techniques to ensure efficient and safe extraction of mineral resources.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Mine Planning and Design:
Develop comprehensive underground mining plans and designs that optimize ore extraction, considering geological constraints, safety measures, and economic factors.
Utilize geological data and modelling techniques to create accurate 3D models of the ore body and surrounding strata.
Collaborate with geologists to interpret geological information and integrate it into mine plans for efficient resource utilization.
Design mining methods, layouts, and sequences to maximize resource recovery and minimize operational risks.
2. Geological Modelling:
Conduct geological modelling using various software tools to represent ore bodies, faults, rock types, and other geological features accurately.
Analyse and interpret geological data to generate reliable geological models, ensuring alignment with drilling results and exploration data.
Validate and update geological models based on ongoing exploration and drilling activities, maintaining model accuracy.
3. Resource Estimation and Reporting:
Estimate mineral resources and reserves through sound geological modelling and data analysis, adhering to industry standards and regulations.
Prepare technical reports, including geological and mine planning documentation, for internal and external stakeholders.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including geologists, engineers, and operational staff to optimize mine plans and resolve technical challenges.
Communicate complex geological and mine planning concepts effectively to stakeholders at various levels within the organization.
5. Compliance and Safety:
Ensure mine plans comply with regulatory standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols.
Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational safety.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Honours degree or higher in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
Proven experience (5+ years) in underground mine planning, with a focus on geological modelling in mining operations.
Proficiency in geological modelling software (Minex, preferred).
Strong knowledge of mine planning software (UGCS preferred).
In-depth understanding of geostatistics, resource estimation techniques, and geological database management.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Knowledge of relevant safety and environmental regulations.
Professional certifications or licenses related to mine planning and geological modelling.
